A special "Recession Session" to be held at the 29th IFC

Adrian Sargeant, Professor of Fundraising at Indiana University (USA) will be leading a "Recession Session" at this year's 29th IFC along with a panel of guests. The session will be held first thing on the Thursday morning of the conference - (08.00 - 08.45) - full details are below:

Fundraising In Times of Recession

Worried about the impact of the recession on your fundraising? Uncertain of how particular forms of fundraising will perform in the current climate? This session may provide some of the reassurance you seek. We’ll draw on a variety of different datasets to track how giving typically performs in a recession and explore the factors that drive how much is given each year. We’ll also examine the current pattern of performance of both major gift and direct response fundraising and again how this has been seen to vary in previous recessions. Aside from the data a panel of senior fundraisers will also be on hand to discuss their experiences and share how their organisations have responded. A session not to miss if you are looking to manage the expectations of your board!

An extremely relevant programme

As the economic downturn overturns old certainties, the IFC has never been more relevant. To reflect this, we are making a special effort to include sessions relevant to the current economic climate. Here are just some of the sessions that will be on offer:

  • a 6.5hr strategy Masterclass by Roberta Capella of SOS Children’s Villages Austria and Margaret Bennett of THINK looking at the challenges of fundraising in an unpredictable market. Find out about the lessons learnt from previous downturns and the successful strategies that helped some charities survive these challenging conditions and come out the other end even stronger than before.
  • Bryan Miller of Cancer Research UK & Jonathan Waddingham of Justgiving, with a data-driven workshop showing how to maximise and measure the success of fundraising through social networks.
  • Brand new research from Adrian Sargeant, Chair of Fundraising at Indiana University that will reveal the three key drivers of donor loyalty and how fundraising programs can be modified to affect them.
  • An inspiring case study showing why you don’t have to be big to go global. Join the fundraisers from HeroRATS, a young Belgian-Tanzanian non-profit, and learn how they successfully launched a fundraising programme in the USA.
