The IWRM Africa 2011 was a great success, welcoming 165 participants from across Africa and further afield. Throughout the four-day Workshop delegates took part in a wide spectrum of sessions delivered by some of the best fundraising experts in the region, including Godfrey Kalibala from World Vision East Africa Office in Kenya, who led delegates through the process of engaging and retaining donors. The Workshop opened with a keynote speech by Theo Sawa, Chief Executve of the African Women's Development Fund on the drivers of philanthropy in the 21st century, and was concluded with an inspirational speech from Petra Ingram, Chief Executive of the Brooke Hospital for Animals and Board member of the Resource Alliance, who explored leadership for the future.

The programme also included a Gala Night celebration where the winners of the Uganda NGO Awards were revealed, along with a host of other social and networking opportunities for fundraisers from across the region to share experiences and expertise.

The IWRM Africa 2012 will be the Resource Alliance’s third African IWRM. The three to four day Workshop will addressthe major challenges faced by African NGOs in the areas of financial security and sustainability. The aim of IWRM Africa is to enhance the ability of African non-governmental organisations to mobilise resources for their causes by providing comprehensive training in all aspects of resource mobilisation and sustainable fundraising techniques. Through a vibrant mixture of hands-on ‘how to’ Workshops and high-energy Plenaries, our aim is to equip participants with a thorough grounding in resource mobilisation theory, as well as a set of practical techniques with which to build their fundraising capacity.
