Philanthropy and Development in Asia and Africa
Working with the Rockefeller Foundation, the Resource Alliance hosted a forum to convene new philanthropists from Asia and Africa together with development practitioners. Titled Bridging Philanthropy and Development in Africa and Asia, the forum took place at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy from 26-29 June 2012.
The forum aimed to share knowledge and ideas on how development issues in these regions can influence and engage philanthropists and explored:
- The key drivers that attract or detract philanthropic interest in development issues
- Systemic factors that can create opportunities and risks for philanthropists and how collaboration with development organisations and other actors in the ecosystem might affect those factors
- The distinguishing contexts for these two regions, in particular what comparative advantages philanthropic and development organisations bring to the design of effective development initiatives in Asia and Africa. Is there untapped potential for cross-regional, south-south learning?
