Tailored capacity development

Europe Aid

The Resource Alliance offers a bespoke training and mentoring service to help non-profit organisations around the world build their fundraising capacity and long-term financial sustainability. Having developed programmes around the world, our experience has shown that the most effective programmes employ a combination of approaches and are implemented over a period of time, with support across the whole organisation. We have extensive experience of both working with individual organisations and donor organisations that want to strengthen the organisational capacity of its members or partners.

Whether you are a non-profit organisation looking for help, or a funder seeking support for its grantees, we can assist you. Our multi-national team brings together international experience and local knowledge in a combination that’s right for each individual partner. There is a charge associated with our tailored capacity development service, to be agreed in advance with each organisation. As well as covering the overheads, this charge is invested into the Resource Alliance’s activities, including the provision of bursaries for small organisations to attend our workshops, conferences and training.

This comprehensive approach to capacity development, equips NGOs around the world with the skills, knowledge and resources to mobilise local support.

What we do

The Resource Alliance works in partnership with each organisation on their capacity development programme. We promote an open and flexible approach and encourage the whole organisation to engage in the process.

We believe that without effective management and leadership, a clear programme of work, evidence of impact and strong financial systems an organisation will not attract regular support. We work with organisations to enable them to create the conditions for success in mobilising resources and support.

The Resource Alliance is uniquely placed to provide a global perspective and experience to each resource mobilisation capacity development programme, while ensuring that guidance and support offered is appropriate for and relevant to the organisations operational context.

Our tailored capacity development services include:

Process

Initial assessment

The Resource Alliance’s capacity development programme starts with an extensive learning needs analysis and assessment. Only when we have a full understanding of the internal and external context in which the organisation is operating can we support them to develop and effectively implement their fundraising strategies. These assessments also provide useful baseline data from which we can measure progress and evaluate impact. Part of the initial assessment involves ensuring that the organisation has the time and human resources to invest in the tailored capacity development programme, as well as the budget which will be agreed together with the Resource Alliance. The assessment reports will inform the design of the capacity development programme.

Design of the capacity development programme

Based on the results of the initial assessment, the programme will employ differing methodology to ensure that the partner organisation takes ownership of their own fundraising development. This will usually involve a mixture of face to face training, onsite mentoring and remote coaching. The Resource Alliance has gained valuable experience in developing and adapting capacity development models to the specific needs of the partner organisations as appropriate.

Implementation of the programme

Following the design of the programme, an action plan will be agreed with the organisation which will outline how the organisation (with the support of the consultant) will achieve the agreed programme objectives. The consultant will look at the whole organisation to ensure that learning can be embedded into the organisation, and that the progress made can be sustained and developed over the longer term.

Our partners

Our partners include local, national and international non-profit organisations and NGOs as well as funders seeking support for their grantees and local partners, such as Plan International, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and DFID-funded Poor Areas Civil Society Programme, Oxfam India, HelpAge International, Sightsavers International, Edukans Uganda, and International Planned Parenthood Foundation.

We have worked in over 25 countries throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America and have expert consultants in most parts of the world.
