Who are your heroes?

Wow, too many to list really, but I’d say in the fundraising world among them is Tony Elischer. And some others: Jerry Huntsinger, Richard Radcliffe, Adrian Sargeant and Geoff Peters. They’re all so tremendously dedicated. They continue to learn and teach others how to do things better. They show me that we as fundraisers must always be learning and then teach others what we learn.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

My parents told me: “You can do anything you set your mind to.” And they were right. Including moving to another country (to the US from Holland) and writing a book.

Why do you do what you do for a living?

I love helping organizations raise more money, and I love the fact that pretty much everybody I meet is passionate about what they do and why, and they’re also extremely nice to work with.
