"Its only after the intervention by the Resource Alliance that we developed relations with corporates such as Aristo, Baidyanath Ayurveda Bhawan, Glaxo and Alcom. Baidyanath Ayurveda has promised Rs 1 lakh each for 2 yrs, Fancy Electric Store pledged to donate Rs 2000/ a month for a period of 1 year and has fulfilled their commitment. The Resource Alliance introduced us to several funding agencies/corporates carrying out CSR in Delhi namely Plan India, CASA, FES and GSK. GSK donated computers to Abhiyan”
Mr Chandrabhushan, Executive Director, ABHIYAN, Patna (Bihar), India
"I would like to thank Sylvia and Joseph for such an excellent 3 day introduction into fundraising. Each member society came away motivated and inspired."
Fundraising Training of WSPA Member Societies, Kenya 2007
What we do
While our main focus is on funding our approach looks at the total organisation and the coaching and training we provide follows from our diagnosis of an organisations needs. Without effective management and leadership, a clear programme of work, evidence of impact and strong financial systems an organisation will not attract regular support. We work with organisations to enable them to create the conditions for success in mobilising resources and support.
Fundraising audit
A full assessment of an organisation’s current practice, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and identification of areas of potential growth.
Feasibility studies
An assessment of the potential viability of a fundraising plan or income generating venture. The assessment will include examining the size of the donor or customer “market”, looking at competencies, reviewing the organisation’s readiness/capacity, and making recommendations on ways to mitigate risks and maximise opportunities.
Prospect research
The identification of potential funders of an organisation and/or its specific programmes. A final report will include brief summaries of potential donor areas of interest, details of grants to similar organisations/programmes, amount of funding available, average size of grants, application processes and contact details.
Fundraising strategy
Developing strategy involves identifying the future direction of your organisation, resources needed and the route you should take to achieve the above. It requires in depth analysis of both internal an external environment in which the organisation operates.
Training in fundraising
Short training programme of 2–7 days covering the basic principles of resource mobilisation, principle sources of funding and associated techniques. Training may focus on specific funding sources or cover all aspects of funding, as the client requires. All training programmes will require participants to carry out some preparation work and will end with trainees planning a follow-up with an ongoing mentoring/support programme to maximise effectiveness. We do not believe that short courses on their own are particularly effective in building fundraising capacity and will always advise clients to build in a programme of ongoing support.
Mentoring/coaching
One-on-one support to individuals seeking to implement a specific plan or strategy. This might include providing advice on issues such as improving governance and strengthening internal systems through to preparing a funding proposal, making approaches to a potential donor, planning and execution of a fundraising event or campaign, developing and implementing an income generating activity, and / or overall fundraising planning.
