About this session

The campaign for racial justice has a long history of horizontal movement-building and of fostering solidarity across communities. The recent waves of mobilisation have shifted, with a vibrant activist community harnessing new technology to spread the message of their collective actions and foster the inter-country solidarity that resulted in a global outcry of support for justice for black lives. Join Kim M Reynolds, Kelly-Eve Koopman, Masana Ndinga-Kanga, and Sarah Summers for a conversation that will bring together some of the sharpest minds harnessing and challenging technological advancements for the realisation of an intersectional, justice-informed, and inclusive approach to campaigns for racial justice.

The problem of racism is intimately linked to extractive capitalism, misogynoir, homophobia, and perpetual displacement. At the forefront of highlighting these trends have been activists who recognise the power of technology to bring together the voices of many for collective action, but who remain wary of how technology has been used for surveillance, online harassment, and the intimidation of racial justice champions. This conversation brings together some of the sharpest minds harnessing and challenging technological advancements for the realisation of an intersectional, justice-informed, and inclusive approach to campaigns for racial justice.
