Can Civil Society Fund Itself?

If we would change things, what can we start changing now?

If we were designing how social change is funded from scratch, would we build the system we have today?

Our current funding system leaves organisations competing for limited resources, while affected communities have the least influence over where money goes and how decisions are made.

This is a conversation that will explore what a different system could look like: from foundations moving more of their capital to resources flowing closer to communities, and from people organising around shared missions instead of individual organisations considering whether alternative forms of capital can play a meaningful role.

Rather than focusing on changes to tax systems, regulation, or government policy alone, this conversation will come back to where civil society and philanthropy already have agency – and where we can make change now.

Big Topics are high-impact, immersive, and solution-focused sessions designed to challenge our assumptions and drive collective action. These facilitated sessions don’t feature panels of experts of lengthy presentations, but are an opportunity to work directly with your sector peers on the global issues that need collective solutions.
