Future gazing: From HIV/AIDS & TB to COVID and beyond
About this session
Professor Linda-Gail Bekker, Director of the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine and Chief Research Officer of the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation brings us through her journey from warrior medic and scientist to leading the International AIDS Society. In her keynote address, Linda will lead us through finding her voice and speaking out on her belief in a strong civil society. Learn about the parallels between the COVID-19 pandemic and HIV/AIDS, including what could – and should – have been done better, and the role of civil society. Looking to the future, we will think about what might be coming down the line, and how we might prepare to avoid making the same mistakes again. Are we powerless, or do we have agency? Is it up to our governments to decide, or can we find and use our voices to change our future for the better?
