Imagining (and re-imagining) the 21st-century nonprofit: Lessons learned from #givingtuesday

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the holiday giving charitable season. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a global movement, fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, to celebrate the power of generosity in all its forms. #GivingTuesday has changed the giving landscape by creating new ways for people to engage with causes, inspiring new approaches to storytelling, and enabling a culture of collaboration and innovation across the social sector.

In this masterclass, we’ll share what we’ve learned over the past six years and explore ways for organisations of all types and causes to build their capacity, better engage supporters, and maximize their impact on #GivingTuesday and beyond.

Learning outcomes

  • Innovation — #GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to innovate and try something new. We hope participants will gain new ideas to bring to their organizations.
  • Leadership — demonstrate how participants can create and build an effective #GivingTuesday campaign for their community.
  • Collaboration — inspire greater collaboration across organizations and sectors

Who should attend: This session is geared toward anyone within a nonprofit, government or private sector organization who is responsible for initiating or leading community engagement, fundraising campaigns or social initiatives. Lessons learned from #GivingTuesday are applicable far beyond that one day.
