How Can Civil Society Move From Pressure to Flourishing?

How can we strengthen belonging, resilience, and agency without exhausting our changemakers?

As we confront social fragmentation, polarisation, fragile trust, and a youth mental health crisis, these same pressures weigh heavily on the people working to create change – threatening both their wellbeing and their capacity to act.

Drawing on insights gathered across 29 countries, we will set the stage exploring new research on how social disconnection and fragmentation affects people across ideological divides. The research points to practical pathways for helping changemakers regain belonging, purpose, resilience, and agency so they can sustain their impact without self-sacrifice.

Then, findings from further research conducted by Amnesty International Argentina will reveal insights into the mental health of young activists, before we move on to practical ways we can sustain creativity and impact without being overwhelmed.

Together, we will discuss how civil society and the social impact sector can move from away from constant pressure and disconnection towards resilience, agency, and flourishing while better supporting the people driving change worldwide.

Open Discussions are highly interactive end-of-day sessions that put you in the driver’s seat! They are lightly facilitated, but don’t expect panel discussions or presentations – your ideas and opinions are what count here.

This session is presented in partnership with Aha Agency.
