Reimagining Digital Donor Journeys

Moving from kindness to contribution when traditional donation optimisation is no longer possible.

Using a real-world case study from DEBRA Ireland’s Rare Disease Day campaign, this workshop will explore how advertising restrictions and data tracking limitations have led to a shift from donation-first campaigns to supporter journeys that begin with a simple, meaningful act of kindness.

Rather than viewing these constraints as a barrier to fundraising, the team at DEBRA Ireland used them as an opportunity to prioritise participation, purpose, and connection. The resulting campaign engaged more people, brought new supporters into the organisation for long-term impact – and also raised vital funds.

Together, we will address a growing challenge across the sector: How can we fundraise effectively and ethically in increasingly constrained digital spaces? In the session, you will learn how kindness-led, journey-first digital strategies can outperform traditional approaches while building trust, resilience, and stronger supporter relationships.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand how to design a digital supporter journey that begins with an act of kindness rather than an immediate donation ask, and why this approach can outperform traditional donation-led campaigns in constrained digital environments
  • Learn how to adapt digital fundraising strategies to prioritise participation, engagement, and supporter acquisition without sacrificing income
  • Take away a practical framework for building kindness-led digital campaigns that raise funds, grow supporter bases, and strengthen long-term relationships beyond a single appeal
